A Note from the Grand Archivist

In the years I have spent reconstructing the history of the Mars Ranger Corps — the battles, the sacrifices, the names carried forward from the silence — one truth has repeated itself across every conflict I have studied:

Information is the first battlefield.

Before a single shot was fired at Saturn Station, Colossa Corporation had already mapped every Ranger’s network signature, every communication frequency, every known associate. They did not need to win the firefight. They needed to own the data. The siege was the second act. The harvest was the first.

Artemus McGlaughflin understood something that most people in positions of power pretend not to: personal information, gathered quietly and without consent, can become a durable instrument of control.

The Iron Widow was never more vulnerable than when she was visible. Her survival — and the survival of every operative who came after her — depended on the discipline of those who held her secrets.

I have inherited that lesson.

This archive exists to preserve truth, honor those who held the line, and pass the record forward intact. It will not sell your personal information or treat your presence here as a commodity.

What follows is not merely a formality. It is a statement of responsibility, rendered in the plain language of accountability.

Hold the line. Check your fire. We carry the names.

02 Information We Collect

We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate the Site, deliver requested content, communicate with readers, understand general Site usage, and protect the Site from misuse.

Information You Provide
When you subscribe to our newsletter, request a Field Brief, contact us, or otherwise communicate with us, you may provide your name, email address, message content, subscription preferences, and any other information you voluntarily include.
Mailing-List Information
When you subscribe, we may record your email address, name if supplied, date and source of subscription, subscription status, consent information, campaign activity, and related mailing-list preferences.
Website Usage Data
Our hosting provider, WordPress, security services, and analytics tools may process technical information such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, approximate geographic region, referral source, pages viewed, visit duration, interactions, timestamps, and diagnostic or security information.
Cookies and Identifiers
The Site may use cookies, local storage, tags, pixels, and similar technologies for essential functions, security, consent management, preferences, and analytics. Non-essential analytics technologies are controlled through the consent choices provided by Complianz where required by applicable law.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information through this Site. Please do not include confidential financial, medical, identity-document, or similarly sensitive information in general contact messages.

03 Newsletter and Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp to manage newsletter subscriptions, deliver Field Briefs and other requested materials, and send updates concerning books, stories, archive records, promotions, release information, and related Mars Ranger Corps Universe content.

When you subscribe, your information is transferred to and processed by Mailchimp on our behalf. Depending on the information supplied and the features enabled, Mailchimp may process:

Your name and email address
The date, time, source, and method of subscription
Your consent status and subscription preferences
Delivery, bounce, complaint, and unsubscribe information
Campaign opens and link clicks where tracking is enabled
General device, email-client, and approximate location information associated with campaign activity

Email-open and click information may not always be accurate because privacy services, automated security tools, image blocking, and email applications can affect those measurements.

You may unsubscribe at any time by selecting the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Unsubscribing stops future marketing messages, although we may retain limited suppression information to ensure that your request continues to be honored.

Our Email Commitment
We send email only to people who have subscribed, requested information, or otherwise permitted us to contact them. We do not sell or rent our mailing list.
04 Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site. This helps us assess which pages are useful, identify technical problems, understand broad audience patterns, and improve navigation, content, and performance.

Depending on your consent choices, location, browser configuration, and our Analytics settings, Google Analytics may process information such as:

Pages viewed and actions taken on the Site
Approximate geographic region
Referral source and campaign information
Browser, operating system, device category, and screen information
Session timing, visit duration, and general interaction data
Cookie identifiers or similar technical identifiers where permitted

We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, or other directly identifying contact information to Google Analytics.

Analytics reports are used for statistical and operational purposes. We do not use Google Analytics to create individual reader dossiers, and we do not use Site analytics data to sell personal information.

05 Cookies and Consent

We use Complianz to provide cookie information, record consent preferences, and manage the activation of non-essential technologies according to visitor choices and applicable regional requirements.

Cookies and similar technologies used on the Site may fall into the following categories:

Functional
Technologies needed for the Site to operate, remain secure, remember consent choices, or provide a feature specifically requested by the visitor.

Technologies that remember optional settings or choices to improve how the Site appears or functions.
Statistics
Technologies used to measure Site traffic, usage patterns, and performance, including Google Analytics where enabled.
Marketing
Technologies used for advertising, cross-site tracking, or marketing profiles. We do not presently use advertising pixels or behavioral advertising technologies on the Site unless separately disclosed through our cookie controls.

Where consent is legally required, non-essential statistics or marketing cookies should not be enabled unless you choose to accept them. You may reject optional categories and continue reading the Site.

You may change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time through the Complianz “Manage Consent” control displayed on the Site. You may also restrict cookies through your browser, although doing so may affect certain functions.

Detailed Cookie Record
Complianz maintains the Site’s detailed Cookie Policy and current service-and-cookie inventory. That document should be consulted for the most specific and technically current information about cookies detected on the Site.

We may use personal information for the following purposes:

07 Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar law applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

Consent: for newsletter subscriptions, optional analytics cookies, and other activities for which we ask permission
Contract or requested service: when processing is necessary to provide information, content, or a service you specifically request
Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, administer, improve, and understand the Site, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights
Legal obligation: when we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law

You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not make processing carried out before withdrawal unlawful.

08 Service Providers and International Processing

We use third-party companies to provide infrastructure and services. These providers may process information on our behalf according to their own terms, privacy notices, and contractual obligations.

GoDaddy — website hosting and infrastructure
WordPress and installed WordPress services — website publishing, functionality, maintenance, and security

Some providers operate internationally or process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live. Where required, service providers may rely on recognized transfer mechanisms or contractual safeguards for international data transfers.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate fraud or abuse, protect the Site or its users, or establish and defend legal rights.

09 Retention and Security

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing requested services, maintaining subscription and consent records, resolving disputes, protecting the Site, and complying with legal obligations.

Mailing-list records may remain in Mailchimp while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, limited suppression, consent, complaint, or transaction records may be retained so that we can honor your request, prevent accidental resubscription, document compliance, and protect against abuse.

Analytics and technical information may be retained according to the settings and retention periods applied within Google Analytics, hosting systems, security services, server logs, and backup systems.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No website, transmission method, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
